September 29th, 2011A Challenge that took 965 DAYS
Great Adventures is delighted to welcome our first female Master Class V Skipper, Amanda Matthies. Spending the past 3 years and a total of 965 days at sea being a deckie and a coxswain, Amanda was then able to sit for a six-week full time course to gain her Skipper license.
Amanda Matthies, Great Adventures Skipper said “I arrived in Cairns 7 years ago for a 4 day holiday and have never left. The sea was my calling and after obtaining my dive instructor ticket I needed a new challenge. The challenge came when I skippered for the first time solo on Monday – I was very nervous but the jetty survived”.
Brian Cave, Great Adventures General Manager Operations said “It is great to have Amanda as part of the team especially in a field that has been very male dominated”.
For Amanda the best part of her job, are the passengers “They are so cool and it is interesting to talk to our guests from around the world and hear about their different adventures.”
