Lucky for one 8-year-old Aloomba State School student Alex Godfrey, became the toast of the classroom after winning the recent News in Education (NiE ) colouring in competition run by Great Adventures and featuring the underwater world of the Squid Squad. The winning entry enabled her to take the whole class to Green Island for the day but the with the lure of the Great Barrier Reef on their doorstep the whole school is now travelling to Green Island. With 80 students and 10 teachers Aloomba State School is looking forward to experiencing Green Island but also participating in a guided walk around the Island with a reef and flora interpretation to highlight the significance of Green Island.

Aloomba School Principal, Robyn Corbett said the whole school was very excited about Alex’s win and the opportunity to visit Green Island. “For many students it will be a first time on a boat and to Green Island. As a Reef Guardian school, our students are very aware of looking after the environment. We’re looking forward to the guided Eco Walk and hope to see turtle and maybe even Migaloo!”

Michael Healy, Group Director Sales and Marketing Quicksilver Group said “we look forward to welcoming Aloomba State School and by participating with NiE it enables us to involve local schools in reef education and learn more about the environment we live in.”
