Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim

Green Island Oceanswim

In stunning weather conditions, new course records were set at the annual Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim on Sunday 6th September.

With entrants from Cairns, Townsville and around Australia and New Zealand, swimmers were challenged with the 1.5km and 3km swims in this unique Great Barrier Reef event. Many were awestruck on finishing the spectacular course, spotting an array of marine life including turtles, rays and small reef tip sharks along the way.

Sixteen year old Clinton Cave won the 1.5km men’s swim for the third consecutive year slicing over a minute off his previous record, while 14 year old Jack Gerrard sliced 3 and a half minutes off the 3 km swim course record.

Tarni Fisher and Kotuko Ngawati took out the women’s 1.5 km and 3km women’s swims respectively.

Now in its fourth year, Green Island’s Ocean Swim attracted 78 swimmers aged from 12-79 years, including veteran Cairns swimmer, Thelma Bryan who successfully completed the 3km swim. The event also included a fun swim for junior swimmers under the age of 12.

The Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim is supported by Powerade and View Tabata, Surf Live Saving Queensland and the Cairns Crocs Triathalon.
