July 21st, 2010Quicksilver Sees Migaloo
Migaloo was sighted today playing off Port Douglas, 3 nautical miles north of Snapper Island by Quicksilver at 10.37am.
The delighted passengers on Quicksilver’s Outer Barrier Reef cruise to Agincourt Reef were in awe of the rarely seen white humpback whale, Migaloo.

Migaloo was heading north at 6 knots and in the company of a pod of dolphins when sighted at 10.37am this morning. Migaloo was sighted last year by Quicksilver on the 13th August so he is tracking the same route but is a month earlier than last year.
In the current weather conditions, Quicksilver has been sighting a number of humpback whales but to see Migaloo has been one of the most unbelievable experiences for both crew and passengers.
The whales are regularly sighted at the ribbon reefs of the Outer Barrier Reef at this time of year, and future Quicksilver passengers may be lucky enough to enjoy the added bonus of whale watching for a few weeks yet.

13 & 14 August 2009
It was a rare double treat for passengers aboard both Quicksilver’s Outer Reef cruise and Silversonic dive and snorkel boat to spot Migaloo half way between Tongue Reef and Low Isles (about 4 miles NE of Low Isles) at approximately 4pm as the vessels were on their homeward journey from Agincourt Reef into Port Douglas. The following day, Great Adventures passengers were delighted to see Migaloo off Green Island, southward bound.
2008
there were no confirmed sightings of Migaloo in the Cairns and Port Douglas region.
24 July 2007
Dive and snorkel vessel Silversonic was the first to sight Migaloo, at that time swimming with two other humpbacks and travelling north off Undine Cay.
16 July 2005 & 15 July 2006
In the two preceding years, the Quicksilver Group was again the first to sight Migaloo – off Green Island in 2006 on the 15th July, and in 2005 he was sighted off Low Isles on the 16th July.
