The achievements and successes of the local tourism industry were celebrated on October 18 at the 2019 Tropical North Queensland Tourism Industry Excellence Awards, held at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park.
“We have all faced challenges in the tourism industry in the past 12 months. However, the people and products receiving awards this year have embraced these challenges with creative and innovative ideas that benefit not only their business but also the destination,” Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) Chair Wendy Morris said.
Quicksilver Group Managing Director, Tony Baker was honoured for his outstanding service and contribution to the Tropical North Queensland Tourism Industry.
Outstanding Contribution by an Individual – Tony Baker
Tony has been at the helm of some of the leading tour operators in Queensland. He has been a board member of Tourism and Events Queensland and Chair of Tourism Port Douglas Daintree. He is the Managing Director of the Quicksilver Group, Australia's largest reef tourism company and a leader in promoting the region both domestically and internationally. He drives environmental stewardship as a member of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's Tourism Recreation Advisory Committee and is the Chairman of the Australian Marine Park Tourism Operators.
