  • Salary:  $77,000 plus superannuation

About the role

We are currently seeking a responsible, safety-conscious, and self-sufficient Pontoon Caretaker to join our offshore operations team. This unique position is based at our Outer Reef platform, located approximately 40 nautical miles from Cairns. Working a rotating 5 days/4 nights on and 3 days/4 nights off roster, the Pontoon Caretaker is responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, security and oversight of the pontoon facilities outside of tour operating hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and maintain tender vessels and a 60-passenger coral viewing Semi-Submersible.
  • Maintain pontoon infrastructure, including cleaning, basic maintenance, and inspections.
  • Ensure the safety and security of the pontoon and its assets, especially outside of operating hours.
  • Assist with refuelling, supply logistics, waste management, and other operational needs.
  • Monitor weather conditions and report any incidents or hazards.
  • Uphold biosecurity protocols and environmental standards in line with Great Adventures' commitment to the Great Barrier Reef.

About You

  • Coxswain Grade 1 (NC) Certificate or higher required.
  • Current Provide First Aid Certificate.
  • Previous experience in marine operations or caretaking roles preferred.
  • Sound mechanical aptitude and ability to carry out minor repairs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A positive, proactive attitude and commitment to safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of living and working in a remote, offshore location.
