Qualified Master 5 and MED 2 – Working as a Relief Vessel Master Offshore

Minimum qualifications: <24 – (Master 5) with Marine Engine Driver (MED2)

 About the role 

Applications are being sought for a Relief Vessel Master and Relief Marine Engine Driver position on board Quicksilver’s live aboard pontoon maintenance vessel departing from Port Douglas. This is a rotating roster of 4 days on 2 days off. The role requires three nights away living on our offshore vessel on The Great Barrier Reef.

Reporting to the Vessel Master and Marine Operations Manager your key responsibilities will include:   

  • Daily preparation and ongoing maintenance of the offshore maintenance vessel, pontoon, small craft and offshore equipment
  • Providing a high level of customer service to our guests 
  • Ensuring customer and staff safety is maintained at all times 
  • Assisting other departments as required

When performing higher duties your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a small team
  • Ensuring the safety of all staff, customers, contractors and general public
  • Maintenance, repair and engineering duties 
  • Managing emergency situations on the vessel under your command
  • Ensuring that the highest standards of customer service are maintained at all times

About you

  • A current Master Class <24m NC essential (with experience in the commercial tourism industry preferred)
  • A current qualification of Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 (minimum two year experience)
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to work well in a team environment
  • Experience with Detroit, MTU, Cummins, Scania and Deutz Diesel Engines is desirable
  • Strong people and communication skills
