Green Island Resort is an eco-friendly boutique resort located on the stunning Green Island, a coral cay in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. Our resort offers an unparalleled experience for our guests, combining the natural beauty of the reef with world-class service and exquisite dining experiences. We are looking for a passionate and talented Executive Chef to join our team and lead our culinary operations.

Reporting to the Resort General Manager you will have the following responsibilities:    

  • Culinary Leadership: Oversee all kitchen operations, ensuring the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and hygiene.
  • Menu Development: Create innovative, seasonal menus that reflect the unique environment of Green Island, using locally sourced and sustainable ingredients whenever possible.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of culinary professionals, fostering a positive and collaborative working environment.
  • Guest Experience: Ensure a memorable dining experience for our guests, catering to their diverse tastes and dietary needs.
  • Financial Efficiency: Manage kitchen budgets and inventory to ensure cost-effective operations without compromising quality.
  • Stay on the Island: Stay overnight on Green Island for a minimum two nights each week to oversee and execute dinner service, ensuring seamless operations and exceptional guest experiences.
  • Operational Coordination: Participate in a rotating roster unloading goods received via fortnightly barge deliveries. 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience as an Executive Chef or Senior Sous Chef in a resort, hotel, or tropical dining venue.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team.
  • Extensive knowledge of culinary trends, techniques, and ingredients.
  • Exceptional organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Passion for sustainability and locally sourced ingredients.
  • Excellent communication skills and a guest-focused attitude.

About Green Island Resort

Green Island is a beautiful 6000 year old coral cay situated in the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. It is an iconic tourist destination popular with international and domestic day visitors and is home to the eco-sensitive Green Island Resort.

With just 46 rooms, the 4 Star Green Island Resort offers a unique reef and rainforest environment, complemented with the luxuries of an island resort. We are a close team and pride ourselves on first class customer service providing a quality and memorable experience for our island guests. A small community of Resort staff live on the island, with other positions commuting daily from nearby Cairns on a fast 45 minute catamaran journey.
