March 8th, 2015Green Island’s Great Barrier Reef Ocean Swim 2015
The warm clear waters of tropical Green Island will set the scene for Great Adventures’ annual Green Island Ocean Swim on Sunday 13 September.
This unique Great Barrier Reef swim is open for swimmers aged 12 and over, with prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall for men and women in both the 1.5km and 3km swims. A fun “Nippers” swim will also be included for junior swimmers under the age of 12.
Typically the water temperature at this time of year is 24 degrees with the air temperature around 28 degrees. The swims will take place on the leeward side of the island with each leg of the event offering a variety of conditions, from shallows to wind chop to tidal flow – and the opportunity to swim over beautiful corals and colourful marine life.
The Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim has developed into a wonderful community event and a much anticipated swim on the local ocean swim calendar. It is made possible with the support of Surf Life Saving Queensland and the Cairns Crocs Triathlon Club.
Fast catamaran transfers for competitors and spectators to Green Island depart at 8.30am from Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal. The swims will commence at approximately 10am.
