June 28th, 2012Great Adventures Green Island Family Fun Day – Fun in the Sun!
Blue skies and sunshine set the scene for a fantastic day on Green Island for Great Adventures annual Green Island Family Fun Day on Sunday 24 June.
Great Adventures Green Island Family Fun Day is a wonderful community event featuring a day of activities designed specifically for local Cairns families and visitors alike to enjoy together, as well as being a great fundraising day for local charities.
The Pirates’ Treasure Hunt, fun beach games including snorkel and sack races for young and old were highlights, as was “Meet Ranger Ben”, the island’s National Parks ranger with a touch tank and talk about intriguing sealife found on the island.
Poolside, the band played and the facepainters were kept busy, while on the beach, the main event throughout the day saw 14 teams from Cairns businesses playing in the annual beach volleyball challenge. This year the challenge raised nearly $1700 for YAPS (Young Animal Protection Society) and Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre – two very deserving local animal welfare groups. Great Adventures have assisted the CTRC with the release of several turtles into the waters off Green Island, a significant turtle habitat. The donated funds will be used to feed turtles currently in their care.
Congratulations to the 2012 volleyball champions, the Cairns Sebel crew, and all who played in the spirit of the day – having fun and raising money for the charities.
