Cairns Dive Operators Awarded for Safety

The winners of the annual Workplace Heath & Safely Queensland Dive Safety Awards were announced in Cairns last night with the Quicksilver Group’s Great Adventures and Silverswift Great Barrier Reef operations taking out two of the three awards.

Dive Saftey AwardThe Diver Rescue Challenge is designed to encourage recreational diving and snorkelling operators to review their diver rescue procedures and conduct regular rescue drills, entrants were required to film and submit a video displaying a rescue drill as part of their normal safety practices. Videos provided were judged on the effectiveness and efficiency of the rescue and first aid procedures shown.

General Manager Operations for Great Adventures and Silverswift, Brian Cave, was delighted with the awards and said “ these award are recognition of the company’s dive crews’ high safety standards and professionalism. It is a credit to the crew and a recognition of the work they perform everyday at the Great Barrier Reef.

Great Adventures Reef and Green Island operations won the Category 3 Major Award for vessels carry over 100 passengers while dive and snorkel vessel Silverswift won Category 2 for vessels who carry between 25 – 100 passengers.

Tony Baker, Managing Director of the Quicksilver Group said, “Scuba diving is an integral part of the Quicksilver Group’s tourism operations and annually, we conduct over 33,000 recreational and certified dives. Safety is utmost for our operations and we encourage these awards on an annual basis as it allows the staff to reflect and focus on the professionalism.
