June 28th, 2011Great Adventures Green Island Family Fun Day
With a warm tropical day setting the scene, Great Adventures annual Green Island Family Fun Day on Sunday 26 June was a fantastic day enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.
Great Adventures Green Island Family Fun Day is a wonderful community event now ongoing for over 15 years and features a day of activities designed specifically for local Cairns families to enjoy together, as well as being a great fundraising day for local charities.
The Pirates’ Treasure Hunt through the island kept the children entertained (and parent’s exhausted!), along with fun beach games including snorkel and sack races. The island’s resident National Parks ranger was a big hit showing children some of the amazing sealife found on the island.
Poolside, the reggae band created a wonderful atmosphere, while on the beach, the main event throughout the day saw 13 teams from Cairns businesses playing for the trophy and prizes in the annual beach volleyball challenge. This year the challenge raised over $1560 for YAPS (Young Animal Protection Society) and Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre – two very worthy local animal welfare groups.
Congratulations to the 2011 volleyball champions, the Jetstar crew, and all who played in the spirit of the day – having fun and raising money for the charities.
