July 15th, 2009Great Adventures community event supports Animal Charities
Two local animal welfare charities have received some much needed funds thanks to 96 enthusiastic volleyballers at the recent Great Adventures Green Island Family Day.
The beach volleyball challenge with 16 competing teams is the main event at the annual Family Day and raised $1444 for the Young Animal Protection Society (YAPS) and the Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre.
Sponsored by Great Adventures and Green Island Resort with the support of Cairns Indoor Sports, players receive free travel to Green Island with the registration fee donated to charity, this year’s recipients each receiving $722.
“Both of these animal charities are well deserving community organisations and we’re very pleased to be able to support the great work they do. Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre had recently cared for an injured turtle that Quicksilver rescued in the Dickson Inlet, Port Douglas,” said Megan Bell, Quicksilver Group spokeswoman.
This year’s volleyball challenge winners were the team from Seawalker, while the wooden spooners, the TTNQ “Cairns Great Up Top Fun Down Under” team, were just as proud.
