June 30th, 2009Green Island Family Fun Day
With sunshine, blues skies and perfect weather, the stage was well set for a perfect day for Great Adventures annual Green Island Family Fun Day on Sunday 28 June.
The Green Island Family Fun Day is a wonderful community event featuring a day of activities designed specifically for families to enjoy together, as well as being a great fundraising day for local charities.
There was pirate’s treasure to be found on the treasure hunt around the island, fun beach games including snorkel and sack races, the sand creature competition, and in between, discovering the reef in a glass bottom boat!
The entertaining reggae band played poolside while on the beach, the main event throughout the day saw 16 teams playing for the trophy and prizes in the annual beach volleyball challenge. This year the challenge raised over $1440 for YAPS (Young Animal Protection Society) and Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation Centre – two very worthy local animal welfare groups.
Congratulations to the 2009 volleyball champions, the Seawalker crew, and of course the “Wooden Spooners”, the all-girls team from TTNQ (Tourism Tropical North Queensland).
