February 19th, 2010Green Island Ocean Swim date announced
The annual Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim is set for a big splash on Sunday 26th of September when competitors take on the 1.5km and 3km course in this unique Great Barrier Reef event.
Now in its 5th year, this is the only ocean swim to take place from a Great Barrier Reef island.
The Great Adventures Green Island Ocean Swim is open for swimmers aged 12 and over, with prizes awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall for men and women in both the 1.5km and 3km swims. A fun swim is also included for junior swimmers under the age of 12.
Typically the water temperature at this time of year is 24 degrees with the air temperature around 28 degrees. The swims will take place on the leeward side of the island with each leg of the event offering a variety of conditions, from shallows to wind chop to tidal flow.
Fast catamaran transfers for competitors and spectators to Green Island depart at 8.30am from Cairns Reef Fleet Terminal. The swims will commence at approximately 10am.
