Beautiful Tropical North Queensland weather, pirate’s treasure, an entertaining volleyball competition, island fun and whales! It was a day full of fun and adventure on Green Island for the annual Great Adventures Green Island Family Day with around 500 Cairns locals enjoying this great community event.

The reggae band by the pool bar set the atmosphere and the kids were well entertained with the Pirate’s Treasure Hunt and walking the plank for treasure! The sand creature competition saw some very interesting creations, including a live buried ‘mermaid’, while the sack and snorkel races were a lot of fun for the kids and parents alike!

Virgin Aerocare - Volleyball winners

The volleyball challenge with 16 enthusiastic teams was the main event on the beach throughout the day. Congratulations to the victorious team from Virgin Aerocare. Nearly $1000 was raised from the event to help a very worthy local animal welfare group, YAPS.

On departing Green Island, the perfect end to a perfect family day was the sighting of some very playful Humpback whales putting on a spectacular display around the Great Adventures vessels, much to the delight of all passengers onboard.
